North Wales railway lines

With so many world famous railways in one region, North Wales is the dream destination for a train enthusiast's holiday. Our heritage lines include coastal miniature railways, romantic mountainside narrow gauge lines, the UK's only steam hauled rack and pinion line, and revived old main line sections winding through glorious countryside.

Many railways are close together, so you can travel on several over a weekend. Or just enjoy a memorable family day out, introducing children to the fascinating experiences of a live steam locomotive and a nostalgic trip back in time.

As well as our marvellous steam railways, our main line railways regularly feature in the 'most scenic route' lists. The Cambrian Coast Line is possibly the most famous, however the journeys along the North Wales Coast Line and the Conwy Valley Line are pretty epic too. Some heritage railways offer discounts if you travel to get there by public transport.

Check out the Great Little Trains of Wales website for information on Discount Cards and saving money on tickets.
