North Wales is home to some of the most impressive castles which offer a fascinating glimpse into the region's past.

Four of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Starting at the most southerly of the four and perhaps the more spectacular setting, Castell Harlech (Harlech Castle) from its position on a sheer rocky crag, overlooks Cardigan Bay and the dunes far below.
Heading north, Castell Caernarfon (Caernarfon Castle) stands on the edge of the Seiont River. It features thick curtain walls and an imperial architectural style. Visitors can explore the grassy inner courtyard and the turreted Eagle Tower.

Crossing the Menai Bridge to Ynys Môn (Anglesey), Castell Biwmares (Beaumaris Castle) was Edward I's most ambitious project. Though never finished, it remains a bold study in symmetry with a twelve-stone-tower outer wall and a water-filled moat with its very own dock connecting it to the sea. A visit pairs nicely with a trip to the nearby Beaumaris Gaol (Beaumaris Jail), a Victorian-era prison.

Finally, going back across the Menai Bridge, following the coastline east, Castell Conwy (Conwy Castle) boasts eight massive towers, offering breathtaking views of the Conwy estuary and surrounding countryside. Visitors can climb spiral staircases, wander through old servant passageways, and explore medieval royal chambers.

Also in Conwy you’ll find the Grade I listed 19th century Gwrych Castle, meaning 'Hedge Castle'. You may recognise it as being home to the ITV television series I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! for two consecutive years. If you've ever dreamt of staying in a castle yourself, there's plenty of options to choose from in North Wales!

The castle at Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa, is a renowned wedding venue, and is the perfect base for a luxury break enjoying a visit to BAZAAR Spa, and Bertie’s restaurant which serves up local and seasonal produce.

Alternatively, live like royalty with a stay in The West End, Hawarden Castle. The spectacular, unique apartment sits at the heart of Hawarden Castle, with private sauna and wood-fired hot tub, great views and its own private woodland.
