About Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival October at Cardiff
The Iris Prize is a film and media organisation committed to increasing audiences for LGBTQ+ stories. Our main projects include the annual Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival and Iris on the Move, our UK wide touring programme.
Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival brings filmmakers from around the world to Cardiff, Wales, UK. Iris is home to the largest short film prize in the world – the coveted £30,000 Iris Prize. Supported by the Michael Bishop Foundation, the prize allows the winner to make their next LGBTQ+ short film here in Cardiff.
Iris also works with Film4 to share all Best British shortlisted films which are streaming now on Channel 4, the UK’s biggest free streaming service.
Through Iris on the Move, we aim to make inclusive LGBTQ+ films accessible to people across the UK.
The 19th festival will take place in person from 13th - 19th October 2025. And Iris Online will be available for viewers in the UK until the end of October.
Our Documentary Film Finance Fund invests £20,000 annually in one British documentary. Iris also runs LGBTQ+ education and community outreach projects in Wales & the UK throughout the year. For more information, visit: www.irisprize.org
Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival takes place in Cardiff each October.
A BAFTA-qualifying festival for British film, Iris is also home of the Iris Prize £30,000 film award – the world’s largest short film prize. The award allows the winner to make a new short film. Watch some of the past films made by Iris Prize winners.
