Brecon is a bustling market town right at the top edge of the glorious Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh

The exploits of the 24th Regiment during the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War are legendary. Queen Victoria referred to her regiment as 'The Noble 24th', while Stanley Baker developed worldwide interest in them with his movie Zulu. On display at The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh is one of the finest collections of military artifacts that tell the story of this historic regiment. The focal point of the museum is the not-to-be-missed Zulu War Room.

Brecon Cathedral and Close

Along with the awe-inspiring architecture of Brecon Cathedral itself, don’t miss the heritage centre: an interpretative exhibition and shop in an atmospheric 17th Century former tithe barn. The exhibition centre makes use of the latest technology in telling the story of Brecon Priory from its 1093AD beginnings to its present use, and really makes history come alive.

Y Gaer

Y Gaer is a combined museum, art gallery, and library located in the centre of Brecon. There's a wide array of exhibits and collections plus events. Housed in the beautiful Grade II* listed former Shire Hall, there's wheelchair access and a Changing Places toilet.

Brecon Canal Basin

With the iconic Theatr Brycheiniog alongside, the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal basin offers heaps to do. Acknowledged as one of the most beautiful canals of the South Wales network, you could explore the towpath on foot or hired bike or potter about in a boat. Then head to Theatr B! Café to enjoy some delicious food at a table overlooking the water.

Walks in Brecon

Explore the wooded path along the River Honddu where the Wildlife Trust has provided wildlife information boards. Amble along the flat canalside path to Brynich Lock, or saunter along the Promenade for some peace and quiet. Take a history trail that takes in all of the town’s wonderful Georgian architecture - there are loads of places to explore around Brecon!

Gate Gallery & Glassworks

Admire and buy Kathryn Roberts’ bespoke glassware creations in her workshop gallery. When the furnace is on the public are able to glimpse through the galleys viewing window into the workshop. Kathryns' diverse little business currently produces blown glass giftware, one-off artworks and lighting. Antique Glass Repair / Restoration Commissions are undertaken. She has designed for the likes of Heals and Dartington Crystal in the past.
