Day one: Coastal drive from Aberystwyth to Roch Castle
We kicked off our trip to West Wales by visiting the lovely seaside town of Aberystwyth to see family. For a quick bite, we went to the Athro Lounge, a cosy café bar in an old school on Alexandra Road – it was just right! The menu had loads of options, but we went for an all-day breakfast and a Caesar chicken salad. The food was absolutely delicious, and we loved the gothic interior.
Fuelled up and ready, we set off for the next leg of our journey to St Davids, Pembrokeshire. Heading south on the A487, we drove through the countryside, passing lovely villages and the beautiful town of Aberaeron. The road eventually led us inland, where we joined the B4329, taking us through the Preseli Hills. The final stretch of the drive brought us to Roch Castle, perched on a hilltop – what a perfect end to a beautiful drive along The Coastal Way of West Wales.
For dinner, we headed to the sophisticated Twr y Felin Hotel's Blas Restaurant, with complimentary transfers to and from the restaurant every night. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed - it had an elegant and cosy vibe and beautiful artworks on the walls to compliment the food. Our meals, crafted by Head Chef Sammy Owen were masterpieces. We started with delicious appetisers that hit the spot, followed by a visually stunning main course. The freshness and quality of each bite showcased the locally sourced ingredients. Dessert was the perfect finale to our meal – a truly unforgettable dining experience.

Day two: Seals, spa, and a scrumptious tea
We had the most amazing day exploring the beautiful Welsh coast and the tiny city of St Davids. After a restful night's sleep, we kicked off our morning with a hearty Welsh breakfast that was absolutely delicious. With our bellies full, we set out for a walk along the stunning Pembrokeshire coast. As we were enjoying the coastal views, we spotted some adorable seal pups! We obviously viewed from a distance so not to disturb them in their natural habitat. Invigorated by the fresh sea air, we jumped in the car and headed to St Davids, the smallest city in the UK. After our stroll around the quaint shops and sights we walked over to St Davids Cathedral, and wow, the architecture and history there is just amazing.

We found a lovely spot for lunch and got to enjoy some traditional dishes - Welsh rarebit and Welsh cakes. Now, here's where things got interesting – the great debate of jam or cream first on our Welsh cakes! Personally, we're team jam first, but we know it's a hot topic. After soaking in the culture and beauty of Oriel y Parc, it was time to for an afternoon of rest and rejuvenation with a pamper session at Menevia Bathhouse and Spa. Our first treatment was an invigorating cold water drench, which awoke our senses, then for some indulgence with sauna and steam brush treatments, which left our skin feeling amazing. The highlight of our visit was the massage – it was pure bliss!

Relaxed after some luxurious spa treatments, we wound down our evening at The Sloop Inn – a charming 18th-century pub located at Porthgain harbour. We enjoyed some good old gastro pub grub, in front of a roaring fire - a perfect end to a busy day.
Day three: Wrapping up the weekend with an afternoon tea
On our last day, we headed northwest to the stunning Abereiddy beach, known for the 'Blue Lagoon' - a flooded slate quarry where the water is a mesmerising blue colour! We continued walking along the coastal path so we could experience the spectacular views of the Pembrokeshire coast. Not far from here, just a short and sweet drive of around eight miles, was our next stop – Melin Tregwynt. This historic woollen mill is renowned for its beautiful, high-quality wool items, including blankets, throws, and cushions. We grabbed a few locally - made souvenirs from the shop.

After heading back to the hotel, we had a fantastic afternoon tea at Twr y Felin Hotel. They served us some bara brith (traditional Welsh tea bread) with some Hoogly tea. Before leaving, we wandered around, admiring the contemporary art and sculptures dotted throughout the hotel. It was the perfect way to wrap up our weekend in Pembrokeshire!
