About WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre

Nestled on the picturesque Carmarthenshire coastline, on the north shore of the Burry Inlet, WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and diversity of wetland wildlife. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher, a family seeking a fun-filled day out, or simply someone who appreciates the tranquillity of nature, this exceptional reserve promises an unforgettable experience.

WWT Llanelli is a sanctuary for a multitude of diverse wetland species. From the iconic yet shy water voles to playful otters and the aerobatic dragonflies that dance above the ponds, every corner of the reserve teems with life. The reserve provides a safe haven for migratory birds, offering essential feeding and resting grounds during their long journeys, and valuable habitat for breeding birds to raise their young. In winter, visitors can witness the spectacle of thousands of birds gathering on the estuary, pushed closer to hides by high tides.

With more than 500 acres of freshwater lakes, reedbeds, woods, pools and tidal lagoons, Llanelli Wetland Centre is a vital refuge for some of the world's most spectacular birds, many of which are rare or endangered. As the seasons change, witness the transition of species - there's always something new to see or hear! Make the most of our comfortable and accessible hides to look out for new or rare arrivals and take your time to get the perfect photos.

Please check our website for the latest wildlife sightings and updates, and details of where to see different species.

The centre regularly offers a range of guided walks and talks, providing fascinating insights into the reserve’s wildlife and WWT's conservation efforts.

We also care for a large collection of some of the world’s rarest ducks, geese, swans, cranes, storks and more. We even have a flock of Caribbean flamingos! Walking through the exhibits, you'll find lots of interesting information as you view these beautiful waterbirds up close.
