About Pembroke Museum and Murals
Pembroke Museum is situated in the Georgian Town Hall, a Grade II listed building with much to interest the visitor.
On entering Pembroke Town Hall, the visitor will be immediately struck by the Murals, a series of wall panels depicting notable events, scenes and people in Pembroke during its development and history from the Stone Age to the early 20th Century. The Murals are on permanent display in the foyer and upper landing of the Town Hall.
On the first floor (a lift is available for disabled access), is the former Courtroom, which now houses the Museum. Here you can follow the fascinating Story of Pembroke to discover the prestigious history of the town, one of the oldest in Wales and famous as the birthplace of Henry VII. Amongst its collections are the silent movies of William Haggar, pioneer of the British cinema; an authentic 19th Welsh costume collection; an exhibition of vintage children's toys; maritime heritage artefacts and an extensive archive of old photographs, postcards and oral history. Children are welcome and there is a children’s corner with activities.
On the first floor also, you can take a look at the Council Chamber, where Pembroke Town Council still holds monthly meetings presided over the Mayor.
The Museum is open weekday mornings 10.00 – 1pm February to November, extended to 3pm after Easter. Entry is free.
The Town Hall is Pembroke’s main venue for events and is available for hire. Weekly markets are held here – Craft Fayre Wednesdays 10.30am - 4.30pm and the Pembroke Country Market 9am – 1.00pm.
There are regular classes too including yoga and Pilates. Enquiries can be made by telephone: 01646 683092 or email enquiries@pembroketowncouncil.co.uk
Pembroke Town Hall is also the starting point for the Town Trail, which is marked out in 30 bronze plaques set into the pavements along the route.
