About Blue Anchor Cottage

This grade II listed cottage is situated on the pretty cobbled 'Pencei' quay-side in the centre of the harbour town of Porthmadog, overlooking the harbour. Once it was the 'Blue Anchor' Tavern welcoming home the mariners from their travels. This is reflected in its unusually spacious lounge and cosy snug, now used as a dining room. The cottage is very comfortably furnished with exposed stone walls and feature fireplaces. From the front rooms the harbour and the splendid Snowdonia mountains can be viewed. To the rear is a private enclosed patio which is a good sun trap in the summer. This area is most attractive with cobbled streets and lawns around the harbour and slip way. Only a few minutes walk is the High Street with plenty of shops and restaurants, playground and the Ffestiniog Railway station with steam train rides up the valley. A 15 minute walk (or 4 minutes by car) takes you to the bay and coves at Borth y Gest village. Black Rock Sands (2ml) is an excellent 3ml stretch of sandy beach with sand dunes where you can park on the beach. Portmeirion village and gardens (2ml), Snowdon/Beddgelert village (7ml), Betws y Coed (25ml).
