Centrally located in the village at the Gateway to Eryri (Snowdonia) the Royal Oak was once a Victorian coaching inn. Local artwork and historical artefacts tell the story of the building and the people who’ve stayed here over the centuries.

The first of its kind plein air painting group was set up by renowned Victorian landscape artist David Cox when he stayed at the Royal Oak in the 1840's. Displayed inside the hotel is the signboard painted by Cox in 1847, showing a grand Oak tree, It was fixed to the wall above the entrance until 1866, when it was framed and displayed in the hall, it now takes pride of place above the fireplace in the lounge.
Choose from three eating venues, who's kitchen teams focus on local, seasonal & fresh produce - from the elegant Llugwy River Restaurant, with its ornate ceilings and decorative lighting and delicious Sunday Lunches, to the locally themed Grill Room with slate walls, dry agers and funky tunes, and then of course our one-off interpretation of a village pub - Y Stablau, with local burgers, music events & craft beers galore - there really is a choice to suit everyone!
